| PAWS May Meeting : May 13th at 6:00 pm (rescheduled from the 6th) First United Methodist Church, Parrish Hall 203 E Frankin St, Quitman, MS 39355 Featuring Guest Speaker: Ms Pam Dollar Pam Dollar holds a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Buisness Administration with a major in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi and is Vice- President of Murray's Tire and Service World, Inc. She served many years as a board member for TEAAM (Together Enhancing Autism Awareness in Mississippi) and the Coalition for Citizens with Disabilites. Ms. Dollar works for improved services and programs for people with disabilites on a state and national level, has served as a staff member for Kamp Kaliedoscope (summer camp for children with autism,) served as the event coordinator for the Annual TEAAM Walk for Autism from 2003-2007, was a state representative for Unlocking Autism, and served on the conference planning commitee for the "Mississippi Conference on Autism Spectrum Disorders" for eight years. She recently resigned her position as Family Coordinator of REACH MS, Mississippi's State Professional Development Grant, to accept the position of Interim Director of Mississippi's Parent Training and Information Center. Ms Dollar supports other parents by attending IEP meetings, serving as a contact person statewide, leading the Central Mississippi Autism Support Group, and serving as co-moderator of ASD-MS (an online support group for over 250 parents and family members of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the state of Mississippi.) As part of her ongoing efforts to see all individuals with disabilities succed as valued, contributing members of their communities, Pam serves on numerous boards, commitees and task forces. She travels throughout the state speaking to various groups about autism, special education, parental issues and concerns. Through her work with Parents United Together, she was instrumental in bringing Peter and Pam Wright to Mississippi to conduct the Wrightslaw Boot Camp, a confernce that educated over 200 participants in special education law. She was also involved in the development of, and conducted training on , the Extended School Year Handbook issued by the Mississippi Department of Education. Pam is involved with disabilites on the local, state , and national levels, and has been on many years. Through her extensive involvement, she has helped improve services for individuals with disabilities and received numerous awards for her work. Most importantly, she is mom to Watson, an incredible young man who has autism. |
