Or "Now What Do I Do ?"
"I am the decisive element in the classroom. My personal approach creates the climate. My daily mood makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will escalate or de-escalate and a child humanized or de-humanized."  ~ Haim Ginott

There are a lot of links to autism supports here, because many of those behavioral and support strategies work well across the board in most situations. For example, ADHD'ers, LD'ers and Downs would respond well to visual supports as well as ASD kids. Even Asperger's children -"Little Professors"- who are highly verbal, benefit from a visual structure. Hearing and repeating knowledge does not always mean **knowing.**

Visual support also helps slower students stay on task, ESL students catch up, and other kids who may need additonal help. They are not hard to make or costly, and you can find tons of clipart for many situations on the web and in teacher's sites !!!
